Community Garden Restoration Kickoff on the
Eve of National Planting Day

Toledo Botanical Garden is excited to announce a new collaboration around a community garden restoration initiative.  Friday, September 7 at 1:30 p.m., at the corner of Monroe Street and Grove Place (just north of Glenwood Lutheran Church and the Toledo Museum of Art), five generously donated oak leaf hydrangea shrubs will be planted to signify the official collaboration of several key partners and a small but strong group of neighborhood gardeners.

 On the eve of National Planting Day, sponsored by Keep Lucas County Beautiful, representatives from the Toledo Museum of Art, Glenwood Lutheran Church, Toledo Botanical Garden’s Toledo GROWs Program, and neighborhood gardeners will gather to thank The Anderson’s for the donation of these shrubs and to ceremoniously plant them in the Glenwood Community Garden.  With the involvement of all of these partners, this garden which will soon return to it’s previous prominence, providing fresh food, a peaceful retreat and a place of beauty for all to enjoy.  

Since 1996, Toledo GROWs (Gardens Revitalize Our World), the community gardening outreach program of Toledo Botanical Garden has taught thousands of people of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds how to grow their own produce while beautifying their neighborhoods. Toledo GROWs provides seeds, plants, tools, planting materials, expertise, and volunteers in support of over 165 gardens throughout urban Toledo.

Toledo Botanical Garden, a public/private partnership between the Metroparks of the Toledo Area and the Toledo Botanical Board, Inc. in collaboration with the City of Toledo, is open seven days a week during daylight hours with no admission fee, except during certain special events. The Garden is located at 5403 Elmer Dr., between Reynolds and Holland-Sylvania roads, just south of Central Avenue. Visitors may also enter from Bancroft Street although there is no vehicular access to the north side of the Garden from the Bancroft entrance.
