Painting en Plein Air Workshop
Two-Day Workshop
Friday May 16, noon - 4:00 pm &
Saturday May 17, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

En Plein Air is French for "“in the open air"” which is where this workshop will take place out in the Garden.  Using your favorite medium (watercolors, oil, acrylic, gouache or pastel) learn how to capture sunlight, colors and the beauty of nature through demonstrations and individual instruction.

Nature of Narrative Art
Comics are not just for kids! For many, comics are the perfect medium to capture personal experiences. This workshop emphasizes the basics of writing and drawing comics based on your own story. You don’t have to be able to draw like a professional as the emphasis will be on connecting your experiences with the page.

Photography Day
Are you familiar with all of the features of your digital camera? Do you understand composition and light? No matter your skill level or interest, come to Photography Day and learn more about the art of photography using the Garden as your inspiration and subject matter. Learn how to maximize the use of your camera, composition techniques, how to capture garden blooms, and camera features. Garden guides and photographers will be on hand to help you make the most of your day.  Representatives from Castle Photo will have cameras and tripods available for you to explore and will also give you technical advice on your own equipment.  All of he photos taken during this day will be compiled and set to music and participants will each receive a copy of the CD.

Exploring the Garden with Acrylic Paints
Learn to create a bold and colorful composition using only primary colors and white paint. This class is designed for students who enjoy painting on-location or in a studio. By incorporating elements of composition and color mixing students will be encouraged to paint both abstract and representational works of art.

Creating Garden Art with Clay
This class will explore the fundamentals of clay art using slab, coil, mold and extrusion techniques.  Receive an introduction to the basics of clay art construction, glazing and firing, and take part in every step of the process.  Participants will be guided, mentored and inspired by experienced potters and clay artists. Projects will include: Landscape tiles, vessels and leaf press bowls. Multiple forms of completed pottery pieces will be yours to take home.  No experience necessary.

Sculpting with Light
Create an abstract lamp using lights, wire and paper.  Learn to make a three dimensional work of art and different ways using inexpensive resources.  Bring the colors of the garden indoors. These lamps are functional works of art that can be enjoyed at home or sold at art fairs.

Yoga in the Garden
Practice the ancient art of Yoga in the serenity of TBG’s Cottage Garden. Yoga, meaning “to join” incorporates gentle stretches with conscious breathing and relaxation techniques to create a body-mind-spirit experience. The vast benefits of yoga include increased flexibility, strength, balance, focus and improved sense of well-being. People of all ages and abilities can participate in this true yoga experience. One doesn’t necessarily need a flexible body to do yoga, just a flexible mind.

Open Studio Sessions
Bring your art supplies and create with the support and camaraderie of fellow artists and the Garden as inspiration. These open sessions are self-directed, with individual coaching provided as needed.  Storage space is available in the studio for your supplies and wet paintings. 
Registration is required for these sessions.
Cost: $10 per session or $75 for a ten session pass.
