The Gardens
Herb Garden

The Herb Garden is situated in the northeast portion of Toledo Botanical Garden beyond the Conference Center. It is a blend of thirteen theme gardens accented with permanent works of art, including a Pierre R. Hines Fountain, a George Carruth Water Trough, a Honeysuckle Arch and John Rogers Copper Trellises.

Some areas in the formal design illustrate features that are shared by herbal plants as in the Butterfly, Grey and Shade Gardens. Still others emphasize the ornamental aspect of herb gardening as represented by the Mediterranean, Knot and Bay Gardens. The Culinary, Tea, Fragrance, Everlasting and Historical Gardens are planted to illustrate various uses of herbs.

Unusual features include the developing willow wall and the espalier-trained fruit trees which border the Herb Garden, a most attractive place in summer and early fall but popular with visitors at all times of the year…a haven away from busy life.

The members of the Maumee Valley Herb Society who support the Herb Garden financially and tend it during the growing season are pleased to share their knowledge of and enthusiasm for these useful plants with guests in the Garden each Tuesday morning during work time. These discussions have helped visitors learn how to add charm and interest to their home gardens by incorporating herbal plants into their flower beds.

Enriching your life through gardens, the arts and nature.
